The dwelling is built. Now what? Tetzaveh answers with clothing, and the detail lavished on the priestly garments rivals the specifications for the sanctuary itself. The veil guarding the innermost chamber is woven fabric, not stone. Whether it functions as a wall or a doorway depends entirely on who approaches it.
They shall make Me a sanctuary and I will dwell among them. Not in it—among them. The Presence inhabits the builders rather than the building. Which leaves a question the chapter never answers outright: if that is so, why does something designed to be dismantled require measurements exact to the half-cubit?
The Torah warns against oppressing the stranger more often than it warns against anything else—thirty-six times, the Sages count, and some say forty-six. Repetition on that scale signals difficulty rather than emphasis. The harder question is what kind of care is commanded, under what conditions, and within what structures.

Sinai is remembered as closeness. The text insists on the opposite—fences, warnings, boundaries named and named again. Exodus uses two different words for fear, and the one that belongs at the mountain is not the one meaning terror. Relationship with the Divine is not the same thing as access to it.
The song at the sea is among the most beautiful moments in Torah and among the most unsettling. It does not linger only on deliverance. It lingers on horse and rider hurled into the water, the enemy sinking like stone. Somewhere here runs the line between necessity and appetite.

Before Israel has had time to understand what happened to them, G-d commands them to remember it—actively, ritually, publicly. That is not sentimentality. Egypt was never only a place. It was a closed system that assigned worth by output, and the pull of such systems does not end at a border.
They did not refuse to listen. The text says they did not hear. Moses brings word of redemption to people whose spirits are so constricted by labor that the words cannot find anywhere to land. Kotzer ruach is not a statement about faith. It is a statement about capacity.
Redemption is usually dated to the first plague, or to Sinai. It begins earlier, with a woman Torah never names. Pharaoh’s daughter comes to the river to bathe—using the verb reserved elsewhere for ritual washing—and reaches for a basket she knows full well holds a Hebrew child.
